IPA Pune -Branch: History, Growth, Development

''Growth'', everybody needs it whether it is at the cellular level, or organizational level or personal level. The IPA Pune Branch today, is a well-organized activity towards perfection to cater to the need of growing pharmacy profession.

In 1962-63, four old stalwarts came together -- L. G. Chitale, Shah R. M., A. Fernandes and Y.K. Joshi and initiated the process of formation of I.P.A. Pune Branch. The Association took a bold step and started Poona College of Pharmacy (polytechnic) a 2-Year D. Pharm Course. The College was located at Bhavani Peth.

IPA also initiated a Best trophy for running a drug store with best service to community. In 1979 due to some problem I.P.A. was unable to run the Diploma course and Dr. Patangrao Kadam showed an inclination to take this course to Bharati Vidyapeeth and in 1982 the process was completed and course started at Erandawana campus of Bharati Vidyapeeth.

From 1982 to 1985 association went into hibernation and revival of association activity started in 1985. Credit goes to the active participation of Li Taka and H. A. Dr. Ajit Shirodkar''s visit proved to be fruitful and present activities started.

Following members were nominated -- L.G. Chitak, President, V. R. Sarode, Vice President, K. R. Mahadik Treasurer Secretary, A. W. Pradhan, M. G. Palkar.

Executive Council members were S.B. Amte, R. M. Shah, Y.K. Joshi, Fernandes, P.G. Saraf, A. V. Bhalerao, K. R. Khandelwal, R. B. Parge, Shirish Dabhade. Since Pradhan went to Aurangabad, A. V. Bhalerao became the secretary.
